Lisburn Rangers beat Reds as Glens and Blues draw

Lisburn Rangers pulled off a dramatic 90th-minute winner to defeat Cliftonville 4-3 at Solitude, while Linfield and Glentoran played out a 2-2 draw in the Premiership. Caoimhe Gleston opened the scoring after just five minutes in sunny north Belfast, but Hannah Doherty responded to level the match. The visitors then reclaimed the lead in the 27th minute, only for Doherty to level again and Caitlin McGuinness to fire the Reds ahead. However, an own goal from Maddy Harvey Clifford equalised for Cliftonville on 58 minutes, keeping the contest finely balanced. Both teams continued to push for a decisive goal, with Grace Murray seizing the late winner to hand Lisburn Rangers the three points and hand Cliftonville their first defeat of the league campaign, a mere week after Cliftonville had clinched a fourth consecutive Women’s League Cup title.
Meanwhile, at Midgley Park, defending Premiership champions Glentoran failed to secure a win in their last three outings as they were held to a 2-2 draw by arch-rivals Linfield, who remain top of the table. The result followed comments from Glentoran manager Kim Turner criticizing the scheduling of fixtures as “really poor and unfair” for her side. Megan Bell put Linfield ahead early, with Sophie McKnight making it 2-0 from close range before Demi Vance pulled a goal back for Cliftonville just before the interval. Linfield then looked to have sealed victory, but on 65 minutes Mia Moore unleashed a superb finish to salvage a point for Glentoran after Linfield failed to clear a free-kick delivered into the box.
The weekend’s results add another layer to the title race in the Premiership, with Lisburn Rangers delivering a late twist against Cliftonville and Linfield continuing to press at the summit. Cliftonville’s recent form, which included lifting the Women’s League Cup recently, now faces a setback after a high-scoring clash that swung back and forth in front of a lively Solitude crowd. The North Belfast clash showcased back-to-back goals early in the match, a flurry of chances, and a dramatic late intervention that decided the outcome in Lisburn’s favour.
In the other fixture, the Midgley Park stalemate underscored the intensity of the rivalry between Glentoran and Linfield. Both sides created opportunities, with Linfield’s early strike-setting the tone before Glentoran’s late equaliser confirmed a share of the spoils. The draw leaves Linfield still perched at the top of the Premiership table, while Glentoran look to rebound in their upcoming fixtures as they bid to snap their winless run. The weekend’s action underscores the competitive nature of Northern Irish women’s football, with several teams jockeying for position and momentum as the season progresses.
