Liverpool may have only just secured Victor Munoz, but there remains a clear need to add another four or five players to the squad. Andoni Iraola faces a monumental challenge at Anfield, and if he isn’t backed with the fresh faces required to restore the Reds to their former level, they could end up in an even tougher position than they faced during the 2025-26 campaign. The Anfield outfit were expected to be among the toughest teams to beat last season, yet they proved to be far worse than most of their title rivals. That has sparked fan pressure for new signings, and given that Liverpool’s attack has already been weakened, improving in that department should be a top priority.
Fortunately for Iraola and Richard Hughes, it appears the club have been given the green light to invest. The primary priority remains replacing Mohamed Salah ahead of the 2026-27 season. The Egyptian King may not have hit peak form in his final year at Anfield, but he still contributed 22 goals across all competitions, a remarkable return by any standard. Salah’s potential departure has seen a wave of winger targets linked with a move to L4, but most of the names emerging are left-wingers, while Liverpool currently boast three left-sided options and only one natural right winger in Federico Chiesa. That imbalance has fuelled various theories, and it now seems Iraola has again been handed the permission to pursue Brentford’s Kevin Schade.
Last season, the German winger appeared 39 times across all competitions for the Bees, contributing 12 goals. His versatility is exceptional, capable of operating anywhere across the front three when needed. Until recently, Schade was regarded as virtually unsellable by Keith Andrews; however, with the arrivals of Calum Wilson and Jaidon Anthony, Andrews’ stance could have shifted, potentially allowing Liverpool to reignite their interest in the 24-year-old. The club’s exploration of Schade would align with the broader objective of refreshing the attacking options and injecting different dimensions into the frontline.
Before the summer window even opened, Liverpool’s interest in Schade was already well documented, and the chatter around a move persisted. As talks progress, the club’s strategic plan appears to hinge on supplementing Salah’s role and diversifying their attacking threat, with Schade representing a flexible, dynamic option who could slot in across multiple positions. If Liverpool can pull off this signing and simultaneously add further reinforcements across midfield and defense, Iraola’s project could gain the momentum it needs to restore the Reds’ competitiveness. The landscape of the transfer market continues to shift, but for Liverpool, the path forward hinges on effective recruitment, a clear tactical vision, and the willingness to back the manager with the players required to execute it.
