GREENSBORO — The rosters are set for the upcoming NCCA East-West All-Star Games this month in High Point and Greensboro. In basketball, Sam King from T.W. Andrews and Kalin Favreau of Oak Grove will represent the West girls, with Andrews coach John Shearin joining Highlands’ Brett Lamb as an assistant. Josiah Hill of High Point Central will suit up for the West boys. The games are scheduled for Monday, July 20 at the Greensboro Complex’s Novant Health Fieldhouse, with the girls tipping off at 6:30 p.m. and the boys following at 8:00 p.m.
In soccer, Ledford’s Maggie Eccard and Oak Grove’s Katherine Lockamy will play for the West girls, and for the first time, the soccer matches will be held at Truist Point. The girls’ game will take place on Tuesday, July 21 at 6:30 p.m., followed by the boys’ game at 8:30 p.m.
In other news, Aaron Wiggins has been traded from the Oklahoma City Thunder to the Atlanta Hawks. A former Wesleyan Christian standout, Wiggins spent five seasons with Oklahoma City after playing at Maryland and being selected in the second round of the 2021 NBA Draft. He contributed prominently to the Thunder during their run to the NBA championship in 2025. In the 2025-26 season, Wiggins averaged 9.4 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists over 65 games as Oklahoma City finished 64-18 and reached the Western Conference finals. The Thunder sent Wiggins to the Hawks in exchange for two future second-round picks in 2030 and 2032.
On the field, the High Point Rockers defeated the Staten Island FerryHawks 9-5 at SIUH Community Park in Staten Island, New York, marking their first back-to-back wins of the second half in Atlantic League play. Ivan Melendez collected two hits, including a double, and drove in three runs for the Rockers (31-38 overall, 2-4 second half). Luke Napleton went deep, finished with a multi-hit game (double, home run) and drove in two, while Nick Longhi homered and drove in three. The Rockers jumped out to an 8-0 lead through four innings, adding a run in the seventh to seal the win. David Hess earned the victory with six innings pitched, yielding five strikeouts. Daniel Blair tossed two perfect innings with three strikeouts, and Alec Barger closed it out with a flawless ninth. The series against Staten Island runs through Sunday, and the Rockers return home next week for a six-game homestand against the Hagerstown Flying Boxcars.
Meanwhile, the HiToms of High Point-Thomasville routed the Martinsville Mustangs 14-3 in seven innings at Martinsville in Coastal Plain League play. Drew Blalock highlighted the night with three hits, including a double and a home run, driving in four runs for the HiToms (18-11). Blaize Johnson and Ryan Allen added two hits apiece with two RBIs each. Josh Wise earned the win on the mound, working three innings with one strikeout. The HiToms built an early lead, scoring eight runs by the middle of the fourth inning and tacking on six more in the final two at-bats.
