EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — El Paso Locomotive FC made club history Saturday night, defeating Phoenix Rising FC 3-1 to record the club’s longest winning streak with its eighth consecutive win.The Locos struck first early in the match. In the 11th minute, Amando Moreno threaded a perfect pass to Rubio Rubín, who, facing only the goalkeeper, finished the sequence on a first-touch shot for his 15th goal of the season to put El Paso on the board.Phoenix leveled the match shortly before halftime when Rafael Czichos slipped to the back post and headed the ball past the keeper on a corner kick. However, El Paso’s response after the break was immediate. Just six minutes into the second half, Eric Calvillo fired a shot from outside the box into the bottom left corner of the net off a perfectly set layoff from Nicolás Cardona to reclaim a 2-1 lead.Deep into stoppage time, Rubín capped a full-field counterattack to put the match away. Taking on the goalkeeper and a trailing defender, he cut right to drop both opponents before tapping the ball into an empty net for the Locos’ third goal and his 16th of the season to maintain his lead for the Golden Boot.On top of the historic win, the Locos maintained their top spot in the Western Conference standings and now need just two more victories to clinch a spot in the USL Championship playoffs. The Locos will look to keep their historic run alive when they return home to host FC Tulsa on Friday, September 25, at 7:00 p.m.Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc.
