Jürgen Klopp is ever so slightly inching closer to being announced as the new head coach of the German national football team after getting unceremoniously dumped from the 2026 World Cup. Former Bayern Munich and Germany stalwart Lothar Matthäus says the DFB is now ideally positioned with the current personnel, but also said Bayern Munich is better off without commenting on the situation.“With Rudi Völler, we have someone who has gained experience in all areas,” Lothar began (Lothar legt los as captured by Sport Bild). “With Jürgen Klopp, we have one of the most successful German coaches in football history. And Aki [Joachim] Watzke has also been a key decision-maker repeatedly in recent years.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementBayern Munich is satisfied with this situation. They are focusing on themselves. Why should they comment now? That would only cause unnecessary unrest. They are concentrating on a few tasks that still lie ahead. A few transfers and a few sales still need to be completed. Looking at the team and the new signings, I’m convinced they are in a good position.”Bayern is a key player when it comes to the German national football team, especially since the core is comprised mostly of Bayern players. At the same time, Bayern probably doesn’t have a say in the affairs of the national team, irrespective of who’s there.
