Lottie Woad is looking forward to playing in the third annual FM Championship at TPC Boston in Norton and she’s already earned a victory at the course. As part of media day on Tuesday, Woad competed against retired Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask in a 14-club challenge on the par-3 16th hole. They took turns trying to hit the green by using different clubs and Woad won easily. As Rask pointed out to the people watching, that should have been no surprise because Woad is No. 5 in the world rankings.Woad, 22, of England has won twice during her first two seasons on the LPGA Tour. In July of 2025, she won the ISPS Hando Women’s Scottish Open in her pro debut. Only two other women had won in their LPGA Tour debuts, Rose Zhang in 2023 and Beverly Hanson in 1951.Last May, Woad captured the Kroger Queen City Championship in Cincinnati. Also in July of 2025, Woad won the KPMG Women’s Irish Open on the Ladies European Tour while an amateur. The FM Championship last year was her first LPGA Tour event in the U.S. and she finished 15th.“So that was an amazing experience for me last year,” she said, “and I’m excited to be back this year.”Woad said she was looking forward to returning to a course that she had played before. She especially enjoys playing the par-5 second and 18th holes because they’re reachable in two.Woad was named first-team All-America five times at Florida State where she won five tournaments and set a school record for lowest career scoring average. The FM Championship will be held Thursday-Sunday at TPC Boston and all of the top 10 ranked women golfers in the world are scheduled to play. Topping the list is No. 1 Nelly Korda of Bradenton, Fla., the only American in the top 10. Miranda Wang of China will try to repeat as champion after shooting 20-under-par 268 last year. No. 3 ranked Haeran Ryu of South Korea, the 2024 FM Championship, is also in the field.Westborough native Alexa Pano is also scheduled to play. Pano, who turned 22 on Thursday, earned her only LPGA Tour victory so far on her 19th birthday at the ISPS Handa World Invitational in Northern Ireland. At the FM Championship, she’s missed the cut in each of the past two years. The players have appreciated the FM Championship, ranking it as the Tournament of the Year in 2025 in part because the event offers free housing.TPC Boston will continue to host the FM Championship through at least 2028 and the purse this year has grown to $4.4 million, the largest on the LPGA Tour other than the majors and the season-ending CME Group Tour Championship.General admission tickets start at $59 and can be purchased at SeatGeek.com. Weekly passes start at $124.Story ideas welcomeYou can suggest story ideas for this golf column by reaching me at the email listed below.
