​One of the major storylines gripping LSU football in the offseason revolved around the health of quarterback Sam Leavitt. During the first week of fall camp, head coach Lane Kiffin said Leavitt “really looked the best he’s looked.””[It] looks like he’s getting more comfortable with the receivers,” Kiffin said. “I don’t look at it that he was really far behind because he did a lot of mental work, did a lot of throwing stuff in different situations and even when he couldn’t, you know, move as well.”Leavitt suffered a season-ending foot injury in 2025, his second year with Arizona State. After transferring to LSU, he used the spring and much of the summer to rehab physically and stay sharp mentally. As a result, the Tigers have their top passer at full speed as the 2026 season draws closer.”I think his progression has been really good and I think he’s right on pace,” Kiffin said. “If you just went out today and saw him, I don’t think that you’d think there was an injury. I think he’s all the way back from that. Now it’s just getting up with the timing of everything.”Early impressions of Leavitt from fall camp have been positive. Leavitt has flashed the arm strength and playmaking ability on the practice field. Leavitt was the top-ranked quarterback in the transfer portal for a reason and LSU’s offense will go as Leavitt goes in 2026.
