LSU redshirt junior Jack Larriviere has been chosen as June’s Allstate Sugar Bowl Athlete of the Month, a distinction awarded by the New Orleans Sports Awards Committee. To be eligible for the honor, athletes must be natives of the greater New Orleans area or compete for teams within the metropolitan region. Larriviere, a Jesuit High School alumnus, made headlines by earning a bronze medal in the javelin at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships held in Eugene, Oregon, on Wednesday, June 10, 2026. He advanced to the finals by narrowly qualifying, delivering a 76.00-meter (249 feet, 4 inches) throw on his third attempt to secure one of the last-round spots. Only the top nine athletes after the initial three throws progressed to the finals.
In the championship round, Larriviere delivered a best throw of 77.91 meters (255 feet, 7 inches), finishing third nationally. His journey in the javelin began only in his senior year at Jesuit, yet he quickly established himself as one of the nation’s top prospects in the event. At the LHSAA Championships, he set the Louisiana high school record with a 69.76-meter (228 feet, 10 1/2 inches) throw to clinch the Class 5A title. His remarkable high school season earned him recognition as the former Gatorade Louisiana Boys Track & Field Player of the Year, and he closed out his prep career ranked No. 3 nationally in the javelin.
At LSU, Larriviere is majoring in chemical engineering. His college career has been marked by resilience and exemplary performance, particularly after overcoming a serious lower back injury that sidetracked portions of the 2023 and 2024 seasons. He has since returned to form as one of the Tigers’ top performers, and he now sits among LSU’s all-time leaders in the javelin, ranking second in school history for the event. Larriviere’s perseverance and elite results exemplify the qualities celebrated by the Allstate Sugar Bowl Athlete of the Month program and highlight his impact both on and off the track.
As a nationally recognized student-athlete at LSU, Larriviere’s achievements reflect a combination of talent, hard work, and strategic focus. His late-blooming start in the javelin and rapid ascent to elite status demonstrate how determination can transform potential into podium finishes at the highest levels of college track and field. The Allstate Sugar Bowl Athlete of the Month honor acknowledges his outstanding performance in June, the breadth of his athletic accomplishments, and his continued contributions to LSU’s storied athletics tradition.
