Lucas Coenen fastest in Southwick 450 qualification

By admin — In News — July 11, 2026

Lucas Coenen, clocking in at 1:53.903, joined his brother Sacha Coenen at the top of their respective leaderboards, giving the Dutch twins a clean sweep of qualification at The Wick 338 in Southwick, Massachusetts. The Coenens made their debut at Thunder Valley, with Lucas finishing second in the motos behind Jett Lawrence. There was widespread speculation that they would be significantly faster in the sandy conditions this week, and their pace on the chart seemed to confirm that assessment.
Jorge Prado posted the second-fastest time overall with a 1:55.139, and he was the quickest rider in the second session when track conditions were more representative of what riders will face in the afternoon. Prado came within a few laps of winning his first moto and overall last week at RedBud, underscoring his strong form. This development means the Lawrence brothers were not in the top two for more than a year, with the last occurrence dating back to Thunder Valley the previous season.
Jett Lawrence finished third on the chart with a 1:55.276, as he tested a new foot peg intended to reduce some of the frustration he faced at RedBud. Hunter Lawrence was just behind his brother in fourth, at 1:55.376, a tenth of a second slower than Jett, yet carrying the momentum of two consecutive overall victories into the races.
Haiden Deegan showed marked improvement in the second session, clocking 1:56.804 and securing fifth place in both sessions. Dutch rider Roan Van De Moosdijk impressed with an outstanding pace, posting 1:57.053 to finish sixth.
Group A Qualification 1 and Group A Qualification 2 are set to deliver further insights as the competition progresses, with analysts and fans watching closely how the results might influence the day’s strategy and race-day mindset. The session dynamics highlighted a mix of testing new gear and optimizing lines on the Southwick sand, foreshadowing an exciting afternoon as riders adapt to the track’s demanding surface.
With the field tightening and the field’s top contenders continuing to push their limits, the qualification results set the stage for a dramatic headline in Southwick. The evolving leaderboard underscored the shift toward the new speed profiles that riders are chasing in The Wick 338, where the sand and heat often separate veterans from rising talents. As Group A moves forward, all eyes will be on who translates practice gains into race-day performance, and whether the Coenen brothers can sustain their early lead or if Prado, Jett, and Hunter will rally to mount a late charge in the pursuit of overall supremacy.
