Louisville, Ky. (AP) — Lucas Glover remains atop the leaderboard at the ISCO Championship for a third consecutive day, firing a 2-under 68 on Saturday to hold a one-stroke edge over Aaron Wise as they head into the final round. Glover, who began with a sizzling 63-64 in his opening two rounds, tallying six birdies without a bogey through the first 36 holes, encountered a more mixed day at Hurstbourne Country Club. He gathered an eagle, two birdies and two bogeys on Saturday to post a 15-under 195 total. “Kind of a slow start, 1 over through six,” Glover said. “Just didn’t make anything today. I didn’t feel like I hit that many bad putts, I just didn’t make anything.” Wise answered with late momentum, birdieing the final two holes to card a 66 and sit one shot behind Glover.
Wise expressed confidence in his overall game after the round. “I felt pretty solid every part of my game,” he noted. “I liked what I did with my ball-striking between yesterday’s round and today, felt pretty comfortable out there with it.”
Also in the hunt are Stephan Jaeger (65), Steven Fisk (68) and Chan Kim (68), all at 13 under. Zac Blair posted rounds of 64 and 65 to reach 12 under. The tournament, played opposite the Scottish Open, is co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour and the European Tour. The winner will secure a PGA Championship invitation but not a Masters berth next year.
Glover remains the lone major champion in the field and has six PGA Tour victories overall, highlighted by the 2009 U.S. Open. He also tied for third last week at the John Deere Classic. “I’m very excited,” Glover said. “I love to compete. I love to compete. And everybody’s fighting for the same thing. I look forward to it. Struggled on the weekend a little bit last week, so kind of want to right that ship.”
Meanwhile, former Auburn standout Jackson Koivun recovered from a rough start to post a 66 and reach 9 under, though he missed the cut in his professional debut last week. NCAA champion Preston Stout stood at 7 under after a 68, the Oklahoma State senior having tied for 15th in the John Deere.
