Louisville, Ky. — Lucas Glover fired a 6-under 64 in wet conditions Friday to stretch his lead to two strokes as he heads into the weekend at the ISCO Championship. The event, played opposite the Scottish Open, carries PGA Tour and European Tour sanctioning, with the winner earning a PGA Championship berth but not a Masters invitation next year. The 46-year-old Glover sits at 13-under 127 at Hurstbourne Country Club after navigating rain that delayed play in the morning on Friday.
“It was a little nasty this morning when we started, with some rain through the first few holes,” Glover said. “I’ve played solid so far with no bogeys through two days. I’ve got to keep that up. Scores are going to be low, so I’ll keep the pedal down.”
Chan Kim shot 65 and Steven Fisk 66 to share the second-place position at 11-under. Aaron Wise (65) and Jeong Weon Ko (65) are one stroke behind at 10-under. Defending champion William Mouw is at 9-under after a 63.
“I played really solid golf today,” Mouw commented. “I hit my targets, had solid pace on the greens. My short game held up when I missed a few greens. All in all, I’m very pleased with my round.”
Glover is the lone major champion in the field and has six PGA Tour titles, highlighted by the 2009 U.S. Open. He tied for third last week at the John Deere Classic.
“I had a sense it would be soft today with the forecast,” Glover said. “Just stayed aggressive. We came out a bit early after the delay to ensure I had the speed of the greens. They were a touch slower, but nothing drastic.”
NCAA champion Preston Stout was 5-under after a 67, the Oklahoma State senior tying for 15th in the John Deere. Former Auburn standout Jackson Koivun carded a 68 to reach 5-under as well, after missing the cut in his professional debut last week.
The ISCO Championship stands as the alternate event to this week’s Scottish Open. Here is the full field of players making the trip to Louisville, with emphasis on the field assembled for this week’s competition.
