The Sporting News expects that gamble to keep paying off.Los Angeles landed at No. 3 in Stephen Noh’s future NBA power rankings, trailing only the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder in the projection for the 2029-30 season. The ranking is striking because the Lakers received a C-minus asset grade and no longer possess the draft capital usually associated with a bright long-term outlook. They have something much more valuable: Doncic in his prime.Doncic gives Lakers a permanent championship foundationDoncic will be 30 years old during the 2029-30 season. Barring an unexpected decline or serious injury, he should remain an annual MVP candidate and one of the league’s most productive offensive players. The Lakers also are expected to retain most of the supporting cast they built around him.Austin Reaves will be 31, Walker Kessler 28, Quentin Grimes 29 and Sandro Mamukelashvili 30. Doncic gives Los Angeles a top-five player to build around for the foreseeable future. Reaves and Kessler provide two established starters whose skills should age effectively. Grimes brings two-way value on the perimeter. The Lakers’ future does not contain the same number of possibilities as the Spurs’ or Thunder’s. Their path is narrower and depends heavily on Doncic remaining healthy and productive. It also i
