Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve sets record for regular-season WNBA wins

UNCASVILLE, CT — Cheryl Reeve stands alone atop the list for the most regular-season wins by a WNBA head coach. On Wednesday, July 8, Reeve etched the league record with her 380th victory when her Minnesota Lynx defeated the Connecticut Sun 86-80 at Mohegan Sun Arena. In doing so, she surpassed longtime Sun coach Mike Thibault, whose regular-season win total of 379 had stood since 2022.
Reeve’s newest milestone comes not long after she reached a broader career landmark: her 414th victory across regular season and postseason on September 14, 2025, which solidified her status as the all-time winningest coach in WNBA history in combined wins, surpassing Thibault’s 413. The achievements arrived in the same year she was inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame, an honor bestowed on June 27 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Reeve joined a select company as the second WNBA coach to gain Hall of Fame status, following Van Chancellor, the former coach of the Houston Comets, who was inducted in 2001.
The induction ceremony offered Reeve a moment to reflect on the trajectory of women’s basketball and the lasting impact of its pioneers. She expressed appreciation for the magnitude of the Hall of Fame recognition and for the work that has gone into building the institution. “To walk around and see the history of how much has been done years before I could ever have this opportunity to coach,” she said.
Reeve has been a fixture with the Minnesota Lynx since 2010, guiding the team for 17 seasons. Under her leadership, the Lynx have captured four WNBA championships—2011, 2013, 2015, and 2017—and she has earned four WNBA Coach of the Year awards. Beyond her WNBA success, Reeve also served as the head coach of the United States women’s basketball roster that won the gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, further cementing her reputation on the global stage.
Her ongoing tenure with the Lynx underscores a long-standing commitment to developing talent and achieving sustained excellence in women’s basketball. As Reeve continues to add to her already storied legacy, she remains one of the most influential figures in the sport, whose leadership has helped shape the modern era of the WNBA. This milestone story follows her career from its early chapters through a historic ascent, illustrating how one coach’s dedication can leave an enduring imprint on the game.
