Lynx Coach Cheryl Reeve Sets WNBA Record for Career Wins

By admin — In News — July 10, 2026

The Minnesota Lynx defeated the Connecticut Sun on Wednesday, July 8, in a win that propelled head coach Cheryl Reeve into the record books for regular-season career victories. The final score was 86-80, a result that pushed Reeve to 380 regular-season wins—one more than former Mystics coach Mike Thibault, whose 379 wins stood as the benchmark before Reeve surpassed him. Thibault’s coaching career has a familial tie to Reeve as well, with his son Eric Thibault serving as one of Reeve’s assistants. After the game, Reeve spoke candidly about the milestone, reflecting publicly on how far she has come.
“This is overwhelming,” Reeve said during the July 8 press conference. “It feels like yesterday, you know, it was 2010. We were trying to be a successful team. I recognize it wasn’t just yesterday. We’re walking in the Connecticut arena and just reminiscing with Weey and Brunson, and you know, Weey in particular when she was here, and it really starts to hit you.” Reeve has been at the helm of the Lynx since 2010. In her tenure, she has earned WNBA Coach of the Year honors four times and has guided Minnesota to four WNBA championships. As a franchise, the Lynx are tied with the Houston Comets and the Seattle Storm for the most championships in league history.
Throughout the postgame remarks, Reeve continued to reflect on her journey to the remarkable achievement of 380 wins. “You never dream it’s going to happen,” she said. “I set out to take it day by day and win games. What I feel is an overwhelming sense of blessing for all the people who let me be me, who believed in what we were doing, and who found a way to be successful no matter what. I feel incredibly blessed for all the people who have been a part of this journey, big and small.” Her gratitude extended to players, colleagues, staff, and supporters who have helped shape the Lynx’s ongoing success.
As of now, Minnesota sits atop the league standings with a 16-6 record, underscoring the team’s strong season and Reeve’s enduring influence. Notably, rookie Olivia Miles and veteran Natasha Howard have been named as starters for the WNBA All-Star Game, an honor that reflects the Lynx’s depth and the organization’s continued ability to develop top-tier talent. Guard Courtney Williams was selected as a reserve for the All-Star Game, further highlighting Minnesota’s balanced lineup.
Meanwhile, the Lynx have managed their schedule with star forward Napheesa Collier sidelined by a ramped-up activity plan that keeps her on track for a return to full competition. Minnesota’s next game comes on Saturday, July 11, when the team travels to face the New York Liberty at 1 p.m. Central Time on ABC. The season series currently stands at 1-1, with the third and final meeting slated for September 18.
