WSL Full-Time was notified of the development through an official club press release issued by The Cityzens this evening. The 27-year-old defender has sealed a move to Manchester City after spending six years with Chelsea. During her time with The Blues, Charles secured five Barclays Women’s Super League titles, four Adobe Women’s FA Cups, and three Subway Women’s League Cups, making 173 appearances for Chelsea across all competitions.
On the international stage, Charles has earned 34 caps for England. She has claimed the UEFA Women’s EURO, the Women’s Finalissima, and two Arnold Clark Cups with the Lionesses.
Upon completing the transfer to Manchester City, Charles said: “I’m really happy to be here and I can’t wait to get started. I’ve seen from the outside and I’ve obviously played against City over the past few years; they’ve achieved great success this year, and I think what they’re building as a team, along with the players and the staff, is something I wanted to be a part of. It suits me and fits the culture we’re developing and the style of play. I believe it’s the perfect fit, and I’m hopeful we can share some memorable moments together.”
Charles becomes Manchester City’s second signing of the summer transfer window, strengthening the squad as they continue to pursue domestic and European ambitions. Her arrival signals City’s ongoing commitment to adding top-tier talent to bolster options across the pitch and maintain their trajectory of success in women’s football. With her experience at the highest levels of club and international competition, she is expected to contribute immediately and help City compete for major honours in the upcoming season.
