Marcellus Wiley has publicly pushed back against the abuse allegations raised by his estranged wife, Annemarie Wiley, in her divorce filings, saying he plans to confront the claims with evidence rather than emotion. In a statement posted to X on Tuesday, July 7, the former NFL player said he intends to respond to the allegations through the legal process.
The response follows Annemarie’s divorce filing a day earlier, in which she also sought a domestic violence restraining order, alleging years of physical, sexual, and emotional abuse. The filings claim a long history of abuse spanning more than a decade, including incidents of physical violence, alleged sexual assaults, verbal and emotional abuse, and financial coercion, with the dating of these incidents traced back to 2012 and including four alleged rapes. Annemarie asserts that she lived in fear for her safety and that of her children, highlighting concerns about ongoing control and intimidation within the marriage.
In her divorce documents and public statements, Annemarie described a pattern she characterizes as escalating and damaging, alleging that Wiley exercised ongoing financial control and created an environment of fear. The allegations extend to claims of sexual violence and coercion, as well as persistent verbal and emotional abuse over many years. The court documents also indicate that she sought relief through a domestic violence restraining order, underscoring the severity of her accusations.
Responding to the legal action, Marcellus Wiley said he loves his children deeply and has always prioritized protecting their relationship with both parents. He stated that the public allegations have compelled him to respond with evidence rather than emotion and that he owes it to his children to present the truth of what they and he have endured. He claimed to have gathered a substantial body of evidence—videos, photographs, text messages, emails, and other materials—that he believes contradict Annemarie’s assertions.
Marcellus added that he had hoped to keep the family’s difficulties private but acknowledged that “this day was inevitable.” He said he would have endured anything to remain with his children, calling himself their hero, and expressed a commitment to fight to ensure the positive and authentic image his children know of him endures. He concluded by reiterating that he is prepared to address the allegations and related matters through the legal process, with the evidence to support his side, while maintaining his focus on his children, his integrity, and the truth.
The couple’s divorce comes after 12 years of marriage, and the public exchange has drawn attention to the couple’s intimate and legal battles. As the case moves forward, both sides have signaled that they will rely on documented evidence and formal legal proceedings to address the allegations, while continuing to emphasize their respective commitments to their children and the integrity of the family narrative amidst the dispute.
