Marcus Rashford set to start season with Man Utd after end of Barcelona loan

By admin — In News — July 9, 2026

FC Barcelona did not exercise Marcus Rashford’s purchase option, and the player has already returned to Manchester United. A fresh report now makes clear that the English club expects Rashford to begin the season as a Red Devil, unless an unexpected twist occurs. The 28-year-old joined Barcelona on loan last season, and while management was generally pleased with his contributions, his salary proved to be a major hurdle. Although his transfer fee was relatively modest, Barça chose to pursue Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United instead. Even though Gordon’s price tag was higher, his salary was more palatable for the Catalan club.
What’s noteworthy is the sense of mutual dissatisfaction between Rashford and Manchester United. It is understood that United would be open to selling him for the right price, but so far no club has met that valuation. Rashford himself had signaled a desire to stay at Barça, yet ultimately Barcelona would not agree to retain him at a salary that matched his expectations.
Despite this, United have shown no appetite for another loan deal. Therefore, unless circumstances soften or another suitor emerges, Rashford is expected to report for duty with his parent club after the FIFA World Cup concludes. He will receive a three-week break once England’s campaign ends, and United are scheduled to begin their pre-season preparations on Thursday. England’s World Cup run continues, with the quarter-final matchup against Norway set for this Saturday. The situation leaves Rashford at a crossroads: return to United to kick off a new season, or wait for a potential move that might never materialize.
