Marcus Rashford: What United star plans to do after the World Cup

By admin — In News — July 12, 2026

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford is having a summer to forget so far. Despite amassing an impressive tally of 14 goals and 14 assists, Barcelona chose not to sign Rashford on a permanent basis and instead opted to spend heavily to secure Anthony Gordon’s services. Thomas Tuchel has likewise shown more faith in Gordon than in Rashford for England’s World Cup squad.
Rashford’s future at Manchester United appears uncertain heading into next season, following his departure from the club earlier in 2025 after a breakdown in the relationship. According to Fabrizio Romano, Rashford is due to hold direct talks with Michael Carrick after the World Cup concludes. The England international has already told United that he is available for pre-season, with Romano noting that Rashford will begin pre-season with United and that a proposal on the table would be considered by both parties.
Former Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag described Rashford as “unstoppable” at times, yet the 28-year-old has managed only one goal in four World Cup appearances in North America. Separate reporting from The Guardian suggested that United would prefer to ease their wage bill by offloading Rashford, who reportedly earns around £17.5 million per year, though there remains a “lack of requisite suitors” for his services. At the same time, United are intent on strengthening their left flank this summer and have shown serious interest in West Ham United winger Crysencio Summerville.
Earlier this month, journalist Ben Jacobs disclosed that United had opened talks with West Ham over a potential deal for Summerville. However, any bid for the dynamic Dutch winger—or for another attacker—could be conditional on Rashford’s sale. The club’s broader strategy appears to hinge on trimming payroll while pursuing additions to the forward line, with Rashford’s status central to those plans.
In terms of context, Rashford’s situation continues to attract significant attention, given his status as a key player for United and England alike. With pre-season on the horizon, all eyes will be on whether Rashford remains with United, whether a new bid or agreement emerges, and how the club navigates wage considerations as it contemplates attacking reinforcements.
