STATELINE, Nev. — Mardy Fish has reclaimed a share of the Edgewood Tahoe spotlight, joining an elite cadre of stars who have won three or more times at the Edgewood Tahoe event. The former tennis pro posted 20 points on Sunday, bringing his three-day total to 72 in the American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament. This marks his third Edgewood Tahoe victory, with prior wins coming in 2020—a year played without spectators due to the pandemic—and again in 2024. Defending champion Joe Pavelski finished strong in second with 66 points, while Steph Curry, the 2023 titleholder, was third with 59. Annika Sorenstam, who played in the same group as Fish and Pavelski, ended fourth with 58. Fish earned a $150,000 prize for the win, and the event set a record for attendance, drawing 86,038 spectators over the three days.
During the final round, Fish, an Olympic silver medalist and current U.S. Davis Cup captain, celebrated with the championship trophy after skating through Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in Stateline. He also shared a moment of levity when receiving the winner’s check from Jonathan Thomas, American Century Championship Chairman, CEO, and President, and Jimmy Roberts. Fish described Sunday as perhaps the best day he has had with his putting at Edgewood, noting it was his 13th appearance in the tournament. The weather produced a distinct finish to the day, with the sun often hidden behind clouds, creating cooler, cloudier conditions and a shade-dappled track that altered the usual bright finish.
“I think today was my best putting day here,” Fish said afterward. “It’s the most I’ve ever worked on it, and I’ve never really, in my sporting life, worked on something as hard as I could and not gotten better at it. I can sort of rely on my work ethic from my tennis days.” He added that improving his putting had become a clear, recently prioritized goal.
Pavelski, who hoped to defend his title, admitted that a few missteps ultimately cost him a shot at repeating. “You get a taste of winning it. That’s the only thing on your mind,” he said. “Coming down the stretch, I really wanted to knock that second one on the green, have a putt just in case, create a little more excitement. You’re always thinking there’s a path to a playoff here, a way to improve.” The playful tension of the final rounds underscored a tournament that remains a premier showcase for celebrity golf, drawing fans from across the region to witness high-profile athletes test their iron-and-wood skills in a setting famous for its scenic beauty and competitive spirit.
