Mario Gila ready for Milan medical after €30m agreement with Lazio

Mario Gila is poised to undergo his medical in Milan on Friday, completing a €30 million transfer from Lazio with half of the fee designated for Real Madrid. The 25-year-old defender, who will turn 26 next month, has been with Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico since 2022, but his contract is set to expire at the end of the current terms. With no renewal in sight, Lazio accepted Milan’s €30 million offer after prior talks with Inter, Napoli, Juventus, and Atalanta. Multiple sources indicate that Gila will arrive in Milan tonight to proceed with the mandatory medical checks on Friday. He is then expected to sign a five-year deal that pays him €5 million net per season, while his representative is anticipated to receive a commission estimated at €5 million.
Under the terms of the agreement, Lazio will receive only 50 percent of the €30 million transfer fee, a concession tied to the arrangement they had with Real Madrid when they bought Gila for €6 million in 2022. As part of the same package, La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Milan will also acquire Lazio’s youth-team left-back Lorenzo Calvani for €2.5 million, bringing the total potential outlay to €30 million—roughly €27 million upfront plus a set of easily achievable add-ons.
In broader context, Gila’s move marks a significant shift for Lazio, who had negotiated a sale amid uncertainties surrounding the player’s long-term future with the club. For Milan, the transfer adds depth to their defensive options and aligns with their plans to strengthen the squad ahead of the upcoming season. Real Madrid’s percentage of the fee remains a notable aspect, reflecting a prior investment in Gila that continues to influence the financial breakdown of the deal. The transfer underscores Milan’s strategic approach to brokering high-value signings by balancing immediate on-field impact with the financial considerations of past and future moves.
Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely as Gila completes his medical and steps into the Milan squad, where he is expected to contribute with his defensive versatility and experience gained in Italian football. The five-year contract signals Milan’s commitment to integrating him as a long-term fixture, while the financial terms of the deal—comprising the core €30 million payment, the share for Lazio, and the commission for the agent—reflect a carefully structured arrangement that accommodates multiple stakeholders.
