Marquette Women’s Soccer Brings In Lili Berg As Assistant Coach

Chris Allen is entering his third season at the helm with two fresh assistants joining his staff. Lili Berg has been introduced as Marquette’s new assistant coach for the women’s soccer team. In announcing Berg’s arrival, Allen shared why this addition is meaningful: “We’re thrilled to welcome Lili Berg back home to Marquette. As a Milwaukee native, this is a special moment for her and for our program. She has competed at the highest levels of the game, both collegiately and professionally, and knows what it takes to win. She’s lifted trophies throughout her career, and that championship experience will be invaluable to our program. She’ll be an outstanding mentor for our goalkeepers, bringing a wealth of knowledge, energy, and a passion for developing student-athletes.”
Berg herself expressed gratitude for the opportunity: “I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to join the Marquette Women’s Soccer staff. I want to thank Coach Allen for believing in my ability to contribute to this program. As both a former collegiate and professional athlete, I’m excited to bring that perspective and experience to our team. I’m passionate about helping student-athletes reach their full potential both on and off the field, and I look forward to building meaningful relationships with our players while pursuing championships together.”
Berg’s playing résumé includes 66 appearances for Bowling Green from 2020 to 2023, with a career goals-against average of 0.96 and a save percentage of .794. The Falcons claimed both the MAC regular-season title and the conference tournament in her freshman and sophomore seasons, earning NCAA tournament berths in those years. Her experience also spans international professional stints in Iceland and Australia. Notably, Berg will be coaching at the Division I level for the first time, as she was still playing professionally as recently as a year ago, and hails from New Berlin.
Now to a different thread of the timeline: June 9, 2026, marked the announcement that Calum Mallace would become the new associate head coach of the women’s soccer program, replacing Jennifer Wandt, who had accepted an assistant role at South Florida. Mallace’s addition aligned with the roster page updates on GoMarquette.com at the time. Fast forward to July 8, 2026, and the staff landscape shifted again. Baetz had departed, Berg stepped in to take her place, and with Marquette’s preseason exhibition match just around the corner, it became clear that Allen’s staff was still in flux. The public narrative suggested that Baetz’s departure was in motion before July 8, and Berg’s hire followed to fill the vacancy. Whether the sequence was perfectly synchronized or not, the result was a refreshed coaching cadre with Berg joining Allen and associate head coach Mallace, alongside the remaining staff.
Looking ahead, the program is set to begin its 2026 preseason with Berg contributing as a new assistant, bringing her diverse playing background and coaching potential to the table. The goal remains consistent: to develop student-athletes, compete for championships, and foster strong relationships within the squad as they pursue success on the field.
