Marta Kostyuk beats Jasmine Paolini to reach Wimbledon semifinals

Marta Kostyuk left a lasting mark in her Centre Court bow, overpowering Jasmine Paolini 6-3, 6-2 to secure a spot in her first Wimbledon semifinal on Wednesday. The 24-year-old Ukrainian had already made a deep run at the French Open, where she reached the last four before falling to eventual champion Mirra Andreeva in Paris. After securing the decisive point on Paolini’s shot for her second match point, Kostyuk celebrated with a triumphant gesture, raising her hands and dropping to her knees. She then shook hands with Paolini and delivered a celebratory pirouette on the court.
Kostyuk’s semifinal run sets up a showdown on Thursday against either Linda Noskova or Elise Mertens, who faced off on No. 1 Court with Noskova advancing by beating Mertens 6-3, 7-5. The potential final for Kostyuk would come on Saturday if she can maintain her winning form. Paolini, who was the runner-up at Wimbledon in 2024, falling to Iga Swiatek, struggled with consistency in this match, recording 26 unforced errors to go with only eight winners, a combination that contributed to her defeat.
