DALLAS (AP) — The Mavericks have completed a six-team trade by signing Tarik Biberovic, a move that also brings Santi Aldama and Marcus Sasser to Dallas. The announced deal on Friday marks Biberovic’s long-awaited arrival in the NBA after eight years of professional basketball in Turkey. The 25-year-old Bosnian and Herzegovinian forward was selected by Memphis in the late second round of the 2023 draft.
Aldama is part of the same sprawling trade that also involves the Grizzlies, Detroit, Milwaukee, Washington, and the Los Angeles Clippers. He will join a Mavericks squad that is also adding Sergio De Larrea, who came to Dallas after being chosen 25th overall by the Los Angeles Lakers in last month’s draft. De Larrea has signed with the Mavericks and is currently competing with Dallas in the Las Vegas Summer League.
Khris Middleton, who Dallas acquired in the blockbuster deal that sent Anthony Davis to Washington in February, was temporarily sent back to Washington in a sign-and-trade as part of the six-team arrangement. The move is one piece of the broader sequence stemming from the Mavericks’ controversial February 2025 trade involving Luka Doncic and the Lakers, a deal that reshaped the franchise’s direction.
Aldama, standing 7-foot-1, posted averages of 10.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per game across 23 minutes per contest over five seasons with Memphis. The 25-year-old spent two college seasons at Loyola University Maryland before making the jump to the NBA.
Sasser, a Dallas native, comes to the Mavericks from Detroit, where he averaged 7.0 points and 2.7 assists over 166 games across three seasons. The nephew of former Texas Tech standout Jason Sasser played four years of college basketball at Houston.
As part of the trade package, Dallas sent guard AJ Johnson, a top-20 protected 2030 first-round pick, and a 2029 second-round pick to Memphis to secure Aldama and the rights to Biberovic. In addition to Middleton, the Wizards obtained a 2033 second-round pick from Dallas as part of the overall exchange.
