After breaking out during his final two seasons at Wake Forest, Hunter Sallis is chasing another NBA opportunity with the Brooklyn Nets in the Summer League. The 6-foot-4 guard heads to Las Vegas following a season that saw him bounce between the Philadelphia 76ers and the San Diego G League team affiliated with the Los Angeles Clippers. A former five-star recruit, Sallis has evolved into an athletic scoring guard with tantalizing two-way upside.
Sallis began his college career at Gonzaga, contributing off the bench for two seasons on highly talented Bulldogs teams. He averaged 4.3 points as a freshman and 4.5 points as a sophomore before transferring to Wake Forest to seek a larger role. The move proved transformative. Sallis quickly became the centerpiece of Wake Forest’s offense after playing a complementary role at Gonzaga. With more responsibility and the ball in his hands, he was finally able to demonstrate the scoring ability that made him one of the nation’s top high school recruits.
As a junior, Sallis averaged 18.0 points per game and earned First Team All-ACC honors. He followed that with another strong season as a senior, posting 18.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.2 steals while shooting 45.7 percent from the field in 32 starts. He again earned First Team All-ACC recognition, establishing himself as one of the conference’s premier guards.
Despite his impressive late-career trajectory, Sallis went undrafted in the 2025 NBA Draft before signing a two-way contract with the Philadelphia 76ers. He appeared in seven games for Philadelphia before being waived in December and then joined the San Diego Clippers, the G League affiliate of the Los Angeles Clippers. In 28 G League games, Sallis averaged 14.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.0 steal while shooting 49.3 percent from the field and 36.3 percent from three. His G League production kept him on NBA radars, illustrating that he can continue scoring efficiently against professional competition.
Sallis’ greatest strength is his ability to generate offense on his own. He is an explosive athlete with a quick first step, a wingspan nearing 6-foot-10, and the versatility to score from all three levels. When he has the ball in his hands, he leverages his athleticism and body control to create shots off the dribble, drive the lane, and score from mid-range. Defensively, his length and lateral speed give him the versatility to guard multiple backcourt positions while disrupting passing lanes and forcing turnovers.
However, questions remain regarding consistency. His three-point shooting has fluctuated across his collegiate career, and he is still adding strength, which can influence his ability to finish through contact and hold up against tougher, more physical opponents. Additionally, continuing to develop as a decision-maker and playmaker will be important as he progresses in his pro career. As Sallis targets another NBA opportunity with the Nets in the Summer League, teams will be watching closely to see if he can bring steady offensive production and reliable defense to the next level.
