The Hurricanes’ 33-20 win over Wake Forest was the 100th career victory of Mario Cristobal’s head coaching career, making him the 18th active FBS coach to reach the mark.It took him 16 seasons across three programs to get there. Cristobal now sits at 100-79 overall, a record built through one rebuild, one conference power and one homecoming. The journey started at FIU, where he was named the program’s second head coach in December 2006 and became the first Cuban American head coach in FBS history at age 36. He inherited a team coming off a winless season and lost his first 11 games, but by 2010 he had FIU at 7-6 with its first Sun Belt title and first bowl win, earning conference Coach of the Year honors. He followed that with an 8-5 season in 2011, then went 3-9 in 2012 and was fired, finishing 27-47 in Miami’s backyard.Watch sports LIVE with fuboTV (free trial)Oregon rebuilt his reputation. After three seasons on Nick Saban’s staff at Alabama and a year as the Ducks’ co-offensive coordinator, Cristobal took over in Eugene and went 35-13 across four seasons. Cristobal played offensive tackle for the Hurricanes on the 1989 and 1991 national title teams and began his coaching career there as a graduate assistant under Butch Davis. He took over in Coral Gables in 2022 and has since guided Miami to a school-record 13-3 season and its first College Football Playoff appearance.Friday’s win pushed his Miami mark to 38-19 and kept the Hurricanes unbeaten at 3-0.
