​Aug. 12 (UPI) — The Miami Hurricanes agreed to a five-year contract extension with men’s basketball coach Jai Lucas.Sources told ESPN, CBS Sports and the South Florida Sun Sentinel about the agreement, which comes with a pay raise, on Wednesday. Lucas led the Hurricanes to a 26-9 record and NCAA tournament appearance in 2025-26, his first season as a head coach.The Hurricanes have yet to announce the pact. Lucas’ former agreement had four years remaining.Former coach Jim Larranaga led the Hurricanes to a 4-8 record in 2024-25. He then stepped down, with Bill Courtney leading the Hurricanes to a 3-16 mark for the remainder of that campaign.Lucas, who previously served as an assistant at Duke. Kentucky and Texas, helped the Hurricanes rebound with the No. 54 offense in the country in 2025-26, up from the No. 170 unit a year earlier.The Hurricanes will face the rival Florida Gators in their 2026-27 regular-season opener at 5 p.m. EST Nov. 2 at the O’Connell Center in Gainesville, Fla.
