Michael Kay rips Yankees’ Jazz Chisholm: ‘Really bad look’

Jazz Chisholm was ejected at the end of the sixth inning after arguing that home plate umpire Adam Hamari should have checked with the third-base umpire on a check-swing third strike during the Yankees’ 5-4 loss to the Boston Red Sox on Sunday night. In the moment, Chisholm whipped his helmet in frustration, and he did not meet with the media after the game, which ESPN New York radio host Michael Kay called a “really bad look” on Monday.
Former teammate Anthony Rizzo weighed in on NBC, saying the ejection showed “a little bit of immaturity,” and that Chisholm needs to be smarter in such situations. Rizzo noted that Chisholm’s absence from the lineup makes things tougher for rookie Anthony Volpe, especially as the team is trying to snap out of a slump.
Chisholm, who has a 223/.306/.399 line with 12 home runs and 24 stolen bases through 80 games, is still on pace for roughly 28 homers and 45 stolen bases, Kay noted. This week has included another incident: manager Aaron Boone criticized Chisholm for having a lollipop in his mouth while playing defense, calling the situation “pisses me off” during the “Talkin’ Yankees” podcast.
Chisholm defended himself, saying, “I don’t think it’s a bad look. I’m playing a game, a kid’s game. I’m having fun,” adding that he promised not to repeat the behavior. The piece also notes that Chisholm’s recent actions have sparked discussions about his impact on the team as they navigate injuries and a competitive stretch.
