Michigan football didn’t necessarily need help in the secondary, as that’s been one of the Wolverines’ stronger position groups, but it’s getting it anyway.Last week, former Boise State cornerback Jeremiah Earby was one of two athletes enrolled at the University of Michigan who got a temporary restraining order against the NCAA to allow them to play a fifth year. And though it was prematurely reported that Earby had joined the maize and blue, as of Tuesday, that officially happened, as it was revealed that he has, in fact, signed with Michigan football.Given that Michigan already has Zeke Berry, Jyaire Hill, Smith Snowden, and Jyaire Hill, it adds to an already solid cornerback room.Former Boise State CB Jeremiah Earby has officially signed with Michigan, @On3 has learned.Received a TRO for a 5th year of eligibility earlier this month.https://t.co/aj2LTDZYF2https://t.co/rj0dgZxWPvpic.twitter.com/AkyVAbMRiK— Pete Nakos (@PeteNakos) October 20, 2026Last week, cornerbacks coach Jernaro Gilford, who had coached Earby during his time at Boise State, noted Michigan’s attempt to find a fifth cornerback.”Coming out of the bye week, that fifth or sixth guy is between three guys,” Gilford said. “It’s Jamarion Vincent, JoJo (Jo’Ziah Edmond), and I’Marion Stewart. Those three are fighting for that fifth and sixth spot. For right now, it’s probably JoJo with Stew and Jam being very, very close. They’re all being there. “But with that fifth spot, it’s going to really depend on who thrives on special teams. We need guys to help coach carry out as far as special teams go. That’s where those guys are going to get most of their reps. That’s what we tell them. From a defensive standpoint, you’ve got to be able to play special teams before you can play defense. Being in a fifth corner, that’s where you have to get your money at is special teams.”Last season for the Broncos, Earby was tied for the team lead with four interceptions. He also led Boise State with nine pass breakups. The year before, he had seven pass breakups and one interception. Before his time in Idaho, he spent two years at Cal, where in 2023, he had six passes broken up and an interception. He had 11 passes broken up, an interception, and two fumble recoveries in his freshman year in Berkeley. It’s unclear just how soon Earby will be able to join the team and rotation. This article originally appeared on Wolverines Wire: Michigan football officially adds former Boise State CB Jeremiah Earby
