Trent Grisham – New York Yankees | © ImagnFans were irate over a lackluster defensive play by Yankees CF Trent Grisham in the outfield during the series opener against the Padres in San Diego on Friday night. Grisham jogged toward a shallow fly ball that seemed catchable if he had read the trajectory and adjusted his speed accordingly. What could have been an inning-ending out became an RBI single for Xander Bogaerts, as the Padres opened the scoring. Wasn’t rooting for him to get injured. Would’ve liked him as a bench piece behind Jones for October,” one fan commented.Grisham appeared visibly uncomfortable, clutching his leg, and was quickly removed from the game. Spencer Jones took over in center field, as Grisham, a former Padres outfielder, only managed to earn a walk in his single at-bat against his former team.Trent Grisham Explained His Hamstring InjuryAfter the 3-2 loss, Grisham was approached by multiple journalists for a post-game interview in the visitors’ clubhouse, where he was asked when he first noticed the issue and whether he intended to tell the team about it.“I felt it when I was still in the base… I wasn’t sure, so I stayed in there,” Grisham said. Finally, Grisham stated that he hoped the issue was not too serious.“It’s disappointing for sure, but that’s part of the game.
