Mike Trout ready for All-Star Game as he makes return from IL

Mike Trout hasn’t appeared in an All-Star Game since 2019, but more than five years later he is poised to deliver a notable milestone. The Los Angeles Angels’ superstar is set to make his 12th All-Star appearance at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, a venue less than 50 miles from Trout’s hometown. After a quick return from the injured list, Trout is back in the mix for the Midsummer Classic on July 14, with the Angels activating him from the 10-day IL on Wednesday to ensure he’s ready for the showcase.
Trout’s path to this year’s All-Star selection is particularly interesting because he missed the 2021-2023 All-Star Games due to injuries. Despite those absences, he appears to be on track to start in the outfield for the American League, under the management of John Schneider. At 34 years old, Trout initially landed on the injured list with a right hamstring strain on June 17, but the expectation was that he would return in time for the event. This season, he has posted a strong stat line, slashing .234/.394/.472 with 17 home runs, 36 RBIs, 12 doubles, seven stolen bases, and 54 runs scored across 74 games.
Trout’s injury-plagued run since the 2021 season has been well documented. The veteran star has navigated a series of injuries over the past couple of seasons, and his limited availability helped explain why he was not selected for the All-Star Game in 2024—the first time in his career he didn’t receive that honor. Still, the 2026 All-Star Game represents a meaningful moment for Trout as he works his way back from injury to participate in the sport’s premier midseason showcase.
Looking ahead to the projected 2026 All-Star lineup, Trout is slotted as one of the outfield starters for the American League. The roster, announced in anticipation of a memorable weekend, features a blend of veteran presence and younger talent who have helped shape the star-studded event. In addition to Trout, the anticipated outfield includes Byron Buxton of the Twins and Aaron Judge of the Yankees, while Mike Trout’s return to the field has been celebrated by fans and teammates alike.
The rest of the position players for the 2026 All-Star lineup reflects the league’s depth and star power. Shea Langeliers is slated to catch for the Athletics, with Nick Kurtz at first base (Athletics), Ernie Clement at second base (Blue Jays), Bobby Witt Jr. at shortstop (Royals), and Junior Caminero at third base (Rays). The designated hitter position is slated for Yordan Alvarez (Astros). The 2026 All-Star Game will be a significant moment for Trout, who has endured extended injury absences but is positioned to showcase his enduring talent on baseball’s biggest stage.
