Milan and Amorim interested in Manchester United defender Mazraoui

Reports from Italy claim that Ruben Amorim is exploring the possibility of reuniting with his former Manchester United colleague and defender Noussair Mazraoui, who remains under contract with Manchester United until 2028. Milan are looking to reinforce their defence this summer, and according to updates from Matteo Moretto on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel, Mazraoui is a player and person that Amorim admires.
There have not been any direct discussions between the clubs at this stage, but Mazraoui, the Morocco international, is reportedly of interest to the Rossoneri. He is contracted with Manchester United until the summer of 2028, with a club option to extend for a further 12 months until 2029. Amorim’s arrival at Milan has sparked questions about how the squad could be reshaped to accommodate a versatile defender who can contribute across multiple positions.
Amorim’s Milan is coming off a season where the team faced elimination from the World Cup quarter-finals, leaving reasoning for roster tweaks and strategic additions. Mazraoui would bring versatility that could prove invaluable to the Rossoneri as they refine their tactical setup. Milan’s recent formations have included a 3-5-2 under Massimiliano Allegri, and under Amorim, the club is expected to line up in a 3-4-2-1. Mazraoui’s capability to operate across different roles in both systems makes him an attractive option for the squad. His experience at Manchester United, where he has already demonstrated his adaptability, suggests he could slot into multiple duties within Milan’s defensive framework.
If Milan pursues Mazraoui, the most likely scenario would involve positioning him on the right side of Milan’s back three, aligning with the team’s emphasis on width and ball progression from the back. His attacking instincts, coupled with defensive reliability, would complement Milan’s wings and midfield transitions, potentially enabling Amorim to deploy more dynamic patterns of play. The transfer calculus would also weigh Mazraoui’s wage demands, the length of his contract, and Manchester United’s willingness to entertain a sale or short-term loan, given that the defender remains under contract for several more years.
In any case, Mazraoui’s potential move to Milan would represent a strategic shift for the Rossoneri, signaling an intent to strengthen both depth and versatility on the back line. The proposed deal would fit into Milan’s broader plan of constructing a flexible, modern defense capable of adapting to multiple formations and tactical philosophies. While no formal talks have been confirmed between Milan and Manchester United, the recurring mentions in Italian outlets highlight a growing interest in Mazraoui’s profile and the possibility that Amorim could look to bring the former United player to San Siro in the near future.
