Minor League Recap: Ralphy And Jace Go Deep

By admin — In News — July 9, 2026

Clippers 8, IronPigs 5 — The Clippers had a productive day at the plate. Angel Genao went 2-for-4 with a walk, and Kody Huff finished 2-for-5, powering a 430-foot homer. Ralphy Velazquez also delivered a three-run homer, launching it at 109.1 mph off the bat. CJ Kayfus contributed with a 1-for-4 effort that included his own home run. Yorman Gomez continued to rack up strikeouts despite allowing a few runs, posting an ERA of 5.06 while recording 24 strikeouts over 16 innings. It seems likely that his ERA will drop in the near future.
RubberDucks 8, Baysox 2 — The RubberDucks dominated this one. Nick Mitchell had a standout game, finishing 3-for-4 with a triple and an RBI double. Chourio, Rosario, and Thompson each collected a hit, while Jonah Advincula went 1-for-3 with a walk and a two-run homer. Jose Devers also contributed, going 1-for-4 with a two-RBI triple. Josh Hartle delivered a solid start, allowing only two runs in five innings with five strikeouts and three walks, dropping his season ERA to 4.58.
Captains 6, Lugnuts 1 — The Captains collected 11 hits and drew three walks to plate six runs. Jace Laviolette led the charge by going 2-for-5 with a two-run homer. Tommy Hawke, Esteban Gonzalez, and Tyler Howard each had multi-hit games, while Aaron Walton went 1-for-3 with an RBI single and a walk. Nolan Schubart extended his remarkable on-base streak to 39 games with a double in the bottom of the seventh. On the mound, Will McCausland delivered an excellent performance, spinning six scoreless innings with five strikeouts and one walk, cutting his season ERA to 6.46.
Howlers 2, RiverDogs 9 — The bad news for the Howlers was the lack of offense, as they mustered only five hits. The bright spots came from their top prospects, with Dauri Fernandez and Juneiker Caceres each going 2-for-4. Fernandez homered, and Caceres lined a sharp double to center field. Caceres is now hitting .321 with a .940 OPS as an 18-year-old in Single-A, and many observers believe it’s time for a promotion to High-A, given his performance and readiness. On the pitching side, Nelson Keljo had a rough outing after a hot start to the season. He struck out five over four innings but also walked three and allowed four runs, lifting his ERA to 5.13 for the year. Despite the hiccup, Keljo remains a key component of the staff, and his upside continues to be a focal point for the organization.
Overall, the day featured several standout performances across the lineup, with multiple players contributing big hits and strong pitching results. The continued progress of young talents like Caceres and the sustained depth across the ranks give reason for optimism as the season progresses.
