Initially a pitcher and a shortstop with Millville Senior, he switched to outfield, where he hit 18 home runs, a New Jersey record at the time. The Los Angeles Angels selected Trout with the 25th overall selection of the 2009 MLB Draft, prompting Trout to forgo a college commitment to East Carolina. Langeliers began catching as a sophomore in high school, hitting .369 with six home runs and 31 RBI. Langeliers passed on signing with the Toronto Blue Jays after they picked him in the 34th round, choosing to play collegiately at Baylor.
