Manchester City are thrilled to announce the signing of highly promising winger Jeremy Monga from Leicester City. The England youth international, who celebrated his 17th birthday just yesterday, has joined the club on a five-year contract that will keep him with Manchester City through the summer of 2031. Monga has long been regarded as one of the brightest prospects in English football, and his arrival adds further depth and excitement to City’s already impressive development setup.
Monga’s football journey began in Leicester City’s Academy, where he progressed through every age group after starting with the Under-9s. Renowned for his blistering pace, confident dribbling, strength on the ball, and an eye for goal, he consistently impressed as he moved up the ranks. His rapid ascent culminated in a breakthrough with Leicester’s Under-21s at just 15 years old, highlighting his rare talent and maturity beyond his years.
Notably, at the age of 15 years, three months, and 22 days, Monga became the youngest scorer in Premier League 2 history when he netted against Aston Villa in November 2024. His breakthrough continued in the following seasons: he made his Premier League debut as a second-half substitute in Leicester’s 3-0 loss to Newcastle United in April 2025, becoming the second-youngest player to feature in the English top flight. That moment marked the start of a memorable 2024/25 campaign during which he accumulated seven league appearances.
In the 2025/26 season, Monga etched another record, becoming the youngest player to start a competitive match for Leicester in August 2025 during a Carabao Cup tie against Huddersfield Town. Just days later, he added another milestone to his growing resume by becoming the youngest goalscorer in the Championship for Leicester, scoring in a 2-1 defeat to Preston at the age of 16 years and 37 days. This achievement surpassed the previous record held by Jude Bellingham and underscored Monga’s remarkable potential.
Now eager to continue his development at Manchester City, Monga spoke about his decision to join the club. “When I learned Manchester City were interested, I knew instantly this was the right move for me,” he said. “For any young footballer, becoming part of this amazing club is a dream come true. City has been the best club in England over the last decade, and it has also provided opportunities for academy graduates like Phil Foden and Nico O’Reilly, which shows there is a clear pathway. It is a privilege to be here, and I’m incredibly happy to have joined.”
Following the signing, City’s Director of Football, Hugo Viana, expressed his excitement about bringing one of England’s most exciting young talents to the City Football Academy. “Jeremy is an exciting player who has already made significant strides in his early career. We have been aware of him for some time and have seen his ability firsthand from his time at Leicester. At 17, he is poised to continue developing, and this move represents the right step in his career,” Viana said. “We are confident in his potential and look forward to supporting him every step of the way on his journey here at Manchester City.”
Everyone at Manchester City is delighted to welcome Jeremy Monga to the club and wishes him the very best as he embarks on this new chapter in Manchester. With his rare blend of pace, skill, and goal threat, Monga is poised to add excitement and depth to City’s attacking options as he continues his development within one of the world’s premier football environments. This transfer reinforces City’s commitment to promoting young talent and providing a robust pathway from the academy to the first team, ensuring the club remains at the forefront of English football and European competition.
