Moretto: Roma nearing agreement with Summerville

Crysencio Summerville is edging closer to a move to Roma than he was yesterday. The Dutch winger, who missed out on Mason Greenwood, has emerged as Gian Piero Gasperini’s top target to strengthen Roma’s attack. After protracted discussions with his representatives in recent days, a pivotal turning point has arrived in the negotiations.
According to Matteo Moretto, the attacker has opened up about his willingness to join Roma. He is currently on vacation after the Netherlands’ exit from the World Cup, and a decision about his future was anticipated within the next few hours. A near-ready financial agreement between the club and Summerville’s agents is on the horizon.
Once Roma finalizes terms with Summerville, with a proposed salary not exceeding €4 million per season, the next step will be to negotiate the transfer with West Ham United. The club’s relegation to the Championship could work in Roma’s favor, potentially easing the path to a deal.
Summerville, born in 2001, has a €45 million release clause after leaving the Premier League. Roma, however, aims to pay closer to €40 million—roughly the same figure they are prepared to offer for Greenwood. The clock is ticking, and Roma will need to move swiftly to secure the player before other clubs enter the race. In the broader context of Roma’s transfer strategy, this approach reflects a careful balance between meeting the player’s wage expectations and negotiating a transfer fee that aligns with their current budget and market conditions, while also considering the added leverage created by West Ham’s league status and the player’s release clause.
If the agreement holds, Summerville would bring pace, dribbling, and versatility to Roma’s frontline, offering Gasperini a dynamic option on the wings and the ability to stretch defenses. The deal would also mark a significant step in Roma’s ongoing plan to refresh their attacking options ahead of the next campaign, signaling a focused effort to reinforce the squad with young, vertical talent capable of competing at a high level in Serie A and European competitions.
