MSU basketball announces major non-conference matchup for upcoming season

By admin — In News — July 13, 2026

Michigan State’s basketball schedule is headed out west for a high-profile non-conference showdown during the holiday season. The Spartans confirmed on Monday that they will take on Gonzaga in a neutral-site game set for December 19 in Palm Springs, California. This marquee matchup is part of the Acrisure Series, underscoring the two programs’ standing as two of college basketball’s most consistently successful teams over the past three decades.
As of now, the game time for the Gonzaga clash has not been announced. MSU and Gonzaga last met in 2022, a tightly contested neutral-site affair in San Diego that ultimately went to the Bulldogs by a single point. Each program has been a staple of the NCAA Tournament for nearly 30 consecutive seasons, and both teams are expected to be powerhouses again this year, making the December meeting especially anticipated by fans.
With the addition of the Gonzaga game, Michigan State has at least three premier non-conference dates on its schedule. The other marquee tests include a meeting with Duke in the Champions Classic, hosted in Chicago, and a Thanksgiving showdown with Arkansas in Detroit. There have been reports that MSU will travel to Tennessee later in the season, though that particular game has not been officially confirmed by the school.
In addition to non-conference action, the Spartans recently announced an exhibition game against Marquette slated for late October. This fall tune-up will give MSU a chance to ramp up before the meaningful December and January battles.
