Former Middle Tennessee State quarterback and longtime MTSU coach Brent Stockstill has been chosen for the Conference USA Hall of Fame as part of the league’s 2026 class, the conference announced on July 8. The 31-year-old Stockstill is in his third season as an assistant with the Indianapolis Colts and his first as the team’s offensive quality control coach after previously serving two seasons as a defensive assistant. He will become the fourth MTSU figure to be inducted into the C-USA Hall of Fame within three years, joining Kevin Byard and Dean Hayes (2024) and Rick Insell (2025).
Stockstill’s journey to this honor is deeply rooted at MTSU. He starred at Siegel High School before signing with Cincinnati and eventually playing his record-setting college career under his father, longtime Blue Raiders coach Rick Stockstill, at Middle Tennessee. In 2023, the Daily News Journal named him one of the top 20 athletes of the past 20 years in the Murfreesboro area. Stockstill still holds most of MTSU’s career passing records, including total yards (12,495), touchdown passes (106), 300-yard passing games (19), 400-yard passing games (three), passing yards per game (277.7), completions (1,055) and attempts (1,610). He was the Conference USA Most Valuable Player in 2018 after throwing for 3,544 yards and 29 touchdowns, a year in which he also led the Blue Raiders to a prolific passing onslaught; he had already surpassed 4,000 passing yards in his freshman season in 2015 and enjoyed back-to-back 30-touchdown campaigns in 2015 and 2016.
“Brent Stockstill represents everything you hope for in a student-athlete,” said Chris Massaro, MTSU’s Director of Athletics, in a release. “He was an outstanding leader, an exceptional quarterback and someone who elevated our football program both on and off the field.” Massaro added that Stockstill’s accomplishments speak for themselves, but what stands out most is the way he carried himself with humility, toughness and integrity. He described the Hall of Fame recognition as incredibly well deserved and said the university couldn’t be happier to see him take his rightful place among Conference USA’s legends.
Stockstill’s post-playing career path reflects his enduring ties to football and his desire to contribute beyond the field. After concluding his playing days in 2018, he continued his coaching journey, with stints at Florida Atlantic in 2019 and South Florida in 2020 before returning to roles that would ultimately prepare him for his current responsibilities with the Colts. His transition from standout quarterback to coach has been marked by a steady progression through various levels of the sport, underscoring a lifelong commitment to the game and to mentorship.
In addition to his on-field prowess, Stockstill’s leadership and character have remained central to the recognition he receives now. The Hall of Fame selection acknowledges not only his statistical achievements but also his influence as a person who exemplifies the qualities valued by Conference USA—excellence, integrity and service to his team and community. As Stockstill prepares to join the 2026 Hall of Fame class, supporters at MTSU and within the broader conference look forward to celebrating a career defined by record-breaking performances, enduring leadership and a continued impact on and off the football field.
