Myles Bailey taken by Chicago Cubs in the 2026 MLB draft

By admin — In News — July 11, 2026

Myles Bailey has been selected by the Chicago Cubs with the 75th overall pick in the 2026 MLB draft, marking a landmark moment for Florida State University baseball as he becomes the program’s first position player drafted and the second Seminole overall this year, following Wes Mendes who went to the Houston Astros. A Tallahassee native, Bailey emerged as one of the nation’s top prospects before an ankle injury prematurely ended his sophomore season. During that year, he posted a .363 batting average, a .913 slugging percentage, 13 home runs, and 33 RBIs. He also drew 35 walks, contributing to an impressive .582 on-base percentage. Despite playing in only 26 games, Bailey led FSU in batting average, on-base plus slugging (OPS), and home runs, and finished among the team leaders in RBIs, total bases (73), and walks. Defensively, he committed just one error, compiling a sterling .995 fielding percentage. His performance earned him a spot on the Golden Spikes Award mid-season watch list and recognition as a mid-season First Team All-American by Perfect Game and D1Baseball.
Bailey made an immediate impact for the Seminoles as a Day One contributor, starting 55 games as a freshman in 2025. Standing 6-foot-4 and weighing 225 pounds, he concluded his FSU career with a .337 batting average, 32 home runs, 16 doubles, 89 RBIs, and 67 walks across 82 games. He posted a .734 slugging percentage and a .488 on-base percentage, underscoring a powerful and disciplined offensive profile that has continued to draw professional attention.
Bailey’s draft history includes an earlier selection by the Chicago White Sox in the 20th round of the 2024 MLB Draft. At the time, teams were reluctant to take him earlier due to his stated commitment to playing for Florida State. While the second-round expectation typically aligns with a signable agreement, Bailey has the potential to further elevate his stock with another high-caliber season for the Seminoles. FSU fans will be watching closely to see whether he can return for one more collegiate season and maximize his draft positioning.
The Seminoles’ recent draft haul also includes Kaden Waetcher and Landon Thome, highlighting a continued trend of strong representation from Florida State in the professional ranks. As Bailey joins the Cubs, the program’s pipeline to the majors remains prominent, underscoring the stability and depth of FSU’s baseball program.
