A frightening incident drew a lengthy caution and significant attention during Saturday’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Lime Rock Park after rookie Thomas Annunziata’s truck caught fire, forcing him out of the event and sending him to a local hospital for further evaluation. Annunziata, piloting the No. 07 Toyota for TRICON Garage, had been competing inside the top 10 when smoke suddenly erupted from his truck and flames followed from beneath the vehicle. He steered the truck onto the grass and came to a stop as safety crews rushed to the scene, bringing the danger under control. The 20-year-old driver climbed out of the truck under his own power, and emergency responders quickly extinguished the blaze.
Shortly after the incident, TRICON Garage issued an update stating that Annunziata was awake and alert and en route to a local medical facility for additional evaluation. “Thomas Annunziata is awake and alert and being transported to an area medical facility for further evaluation,” the team confirmed. Veteran NASCAR reporter Bob Pockrass later reported that Annunziata had been taken to a local hospital for further assessment following the frightening fire.
Before the mechanical issue, Annunziata had been enjoying one of the strongest Truck Series races of his young career. The rookie qualified near the front of the field and spent much of the afternoon racing inside the top 10, building early momentum, only for the fire to abruptly end his day. NASCAR officials credited him with a 30th-place finish after he completed 79 of the scheduled 100 laps. The incident occurred with 21 laps remaining and immediately brought the race under caution as crews worked to secure the damaged vehicle and clean up the scene. Fortunately, Annunziata was able to exit the vehicle on his own before medical personnel evaluated him.
While Annunziata’s condition remained the primary concern in the immediate aftermath, the race eventually resumed and concluded with Grant Enfinger taking the checkered flag for the victory. Landen Lewis finished second, followed by Kaden Honeycutt, Parker Kligerman, and Christian Eckes to round out the top five in a dramatic Lime Rock Park showdown. As the air cleared after the incident, NASCAR provided no additional public updates on Annunziata beyond confirming that he was awake and alert while being transported for further medical evaluation, leaving his fans and team awaiting more news as the investigation into the cause of the fire continued.
