The Nashville Predators claimed defenseman Daemon Hunt off waivers on Oct. 24.Hunt, 24, was waived by the Minnesota Wild on Oct. 23. The 24-year-old defenseman has appeared in 11 games for the Wild this season, but has yet to record a point.A third-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft, Hunt has seven assists in 56 career NHL games. He has 59 points (eight goals, 51 assists) in 173 career AHL games with the Cleveland Monsters and Iowa Wild.According to Puck Pedia, the Predators waived defenseman Jack Ahcan on Oct. 24. Unless a team claims Ahcan by Oct. 25, he can be assigned to the Milwaukee Admirals.Hunt signed a one-year, $900,000 contract with the Wild in July. He will be an unrestricted free agent in 2027. Though adding Hunt and waiving Ahcan will not move the needle much, it’s another sign that general manager Chris MacFarland is not happy with the Predators’ defense. Nashville has also added defenseman William Trudeau (claimed off waivers on Sept. 26) and traded for defenseman Jordan Struble on Oct. 9. The Predators visit the Pittsburgh Penguins on Oct. 24 at PPG Paints Arena (6 p.m. CT, The Spot Nashville 28). Nashville (3-3-3, 9 points) has lost four of their past five games, most recently a 6-0 shutout to the Boston Bruins on Oct. 22.Alex Daugherty is the Predators beat writer for The Tennessean.
