Hours after being officially recalled from Triple A Rochester for the second time in the regular season, the Nationals jumped out to a 3-0 lead, highlighted by Abimelec Ortiz blasting a 422 foot laser for his first career home run in the first inning. After recording a double in his MLB debut back on July 12, Ortiz now becomes the fourth player in franchise history to record an extra base hit in each of his first two MLB games. Yet it marked the lone hit for Ortiz after going 1-for-3 in his return at first base before Andres Chaparro pinch hit for him in the seventh inning.James Wood sidelinedOne key injury materialized midway through the game after James Wood appeared to grimace following an at bat in the sixth inning. Wood ultimately stayed in the game before coming out in the eighth inning with Dylan Crews taking his spot. Butera said postgame that Wood will have imaging done on his left side after feeling the pain during his at bat, adding uncertainty for what’s next.Pitcher DemotedThe Nationals made a move shortly after Monday’s loss to the pitching staff after announcing Eddy Yean will head back down to Triple A Rochester yet again. Yean appeared in Monday’s loss after lasting 0.2 innings and 13 pitches, one of four pitchers who appeared in the loss, with the Nationals set to add a pitcher to the staff ahead of Tuesday night.
