Despite the notable departures of Cameron Boozer and Isaiah Evans, Jon Scheyer and the Blue Devils enter the 2026-27 season richly stocked with talent. Duke has secured commitments from a slew of top prospects, with none more compelling than Joaquim Boumtje-Boumtje. This year, Boumtje-Boumtje drew attention while playing for FC Barcelona and again with Team USA this summer, so much so that draft analysts see perhaps No. 1 overall potential. Another basketball analyst, Terrence Oglesby, recently voiced strong confidence in Boumtje-Boumtje ahead of his first college season, saying, “We haven’t seen much of Boumtje-Boumtje, but I think everybody has him penciled in as the starter. From what we’ve heard, he’s the No. 1 player in the class.” Oglesby even suggested Boumtje-Boumtje could be a dark horse contender for the ACC Player of the Year Award this coming season. While he’s not yet a starter, his ceiling and polish position him as one of the most intriguing prospects entering the 2026-27 campaign.
