NBC could try to get both English and Spanish rights to 2030 World Cup

The World Cup broadcast rights in the United States for 2030 will go to the highest bidder, with both English- and Spanish-language versions up for grabs. NBC currently holds the Spanish rights via Telemundo and Peacock, and is weighing an approach to secure both sets of rights. Austin Karp of Sports Business Journal notes that NBC has discussed extending its Spanish-language coverage, and Telemundo executive Joaquin Duro suggested NBC could end up obtaining both packages. “Definitely something that we are beyond exploring,” Duro told SBJ. Fox is paying $485 million for the English-language rights to the 2026 World Cup, a deal that has been viewed as a strong bargain. Karp also reports that the Fox and Telemundo broadcasts averaged 9.7 million total viewers per group-stage game, with 5.05 million viewers for English and 4.6 million for Spanish. As the NFL prepares for its next round of broadcast deals starting in 2030, any partner aiming to secure World Cup rights will face steep costs, though the revenue from advertising and other benefits of telecasting the games could help offset those expenses.
