Redshirting will become a thing of the past thanks to the NCAA’s new rules, but current players can still extend their college sports careers via this method for a little while longer.
Maryland forward Pharrel Payne has been granted a medical waiver from the NCAA and will be able to suit up for a fifth season in college basketball. He was limited to just 10 games last season due to a leg injury he suffered in a mid-December contest against Michigan.

Payne spent last season with the Terrapins after spending his junior year at Texas A&M, and his first two college basketball seasons at Minnesota.
The six-foot-nine forward is an efficient scorer from inside, with a career 63% field goal percentage. He averaged a career-high 17.5 points per game last season with Maryland before going down.
