A former Nebraska All-American has earned a spot on the American League All-Star Futures roster for 2026. Infielder Max Anderson was added by Major League Baseball to participate in the All-Star Futures Game, expanding the AL roster to include 25 prospects who will face the National League squad during the MLB All-Star break. Anderson becomes the sixth Husker all-time to be chosen for the Futures Game and the third in the last four years. Previous Huskers selected in recent seasons include Brice Matthews in 2025 and Spencer Schwellenbach in 2023, with other notable Husker alumni such as Joba Chamberlain (2007), Alex Gordon (2006), and Jamal Strong (2001) also earning Futures Game selection. Each of these players eventually reached the Major Leagues after competing in the Futures Game.
Anderson was a 2023 second-round pick and is currently with the Toledo Mud Hens, the Triple-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, after spending time with the Lakeland Flying Tigers. Through 57 games this season, the former Husker is posting a .307 batting average with a .353 on-base percentage and a .518 slugging percentage. He has accumulated 70 hits, 36 RBIs, 13 doubles, 11 home runs, and one triple.
The Nebraska standout had an exceptionally productive college career, highlighted by a senior season in which he hit .414 with 101 hits, 20 doubles, 2 triples, 21 home runs, and 70 RBIs. With strong performance in the minor leagues and a proven track record at Nebraska, Anderson now has the opportunity to take the next step toward a potential call-up by the Tigers.
The Futures Game is scheduled for Sunday, July 12, at Philadelphia’s Citizens Bank Park. The game will be broadcast nationally on NBC at 11 a.m. Central Time. This event presents a platform for top prospects to showcase their talents on a national stage, potentially accelerating their path to the major leagues.
