Remember the good old days when heartbreak consisted of a consistently highly-ranked Huskers team doing things like losing to Oklahoma in the early Tom Osborne days.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThen when they conquered Oklahoma for a stretch, they just couldn’t win the big one when it came to chasing a national title, the most crushing being the Miami loss in the 1984 Orange Bowl. Then a few more losses to Oklahoma, a diet of Florida teams in Florida for bowl games including several more losses to Miami on their home field, before finally getting over in the mid-90’sWho wouldn’t kill for that kind of disappointment again? The end of the Osborne Era brought on a different kinds gut punches, but, hard as it is to believe, the Huskers skirted larger disasters more than once, but at least came away with an irritating win instead of a national butt-of-jokes loss.Of these three near binge-booze-inducing losses, which as the Huskers’ greatest escape?
