​NEOSHO, MO. — Practically every Neosho High School athletics program was represented on the town square Wednesday evening for the annual ‘Cats Summer Fest.’The event offered local parents and athletes a chance to get involved with youth sports in Neosho while highlighting what each athletic program represents.There was four square with the volleyball team, time trials with the track and field team, target practice with the archery team and even a full-on wrestling tournament with mats placed in the middle of Neosho’s historic downtown square.“It started as an idea for a wrestling tournament outside in the summertime, which is kind of a new deal,” head youth wrestling coach Carter Boatright said. “And then it spurred into how can we tie in the rest of the community in the fall sports. And so we got basketball involved for the winter sports. And volleyball, track is here for spring. So we really kind of involve the community doing our thing for wrestling, but then letting everybody else have their own time so we can show kind of what Neosho Athletics is headed to.”The wrestling tournament, aptly titled ‘Square Off on the Square,’ featured athletes ranging from kindergarten to 12th grade, affording an opportunity to get some competition in ahead of the fall season in quite the unique setting.Boatright said Neosho aims to continue hosting the ‘Cats Summer Fest’ each year as an annual summer tradition.Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc.
