New Barcelona target always harboured the desire to join the club: ‘I see myself playing there’

Karim Adeyemi has suddenly emerged as one of Barcelona’s top attacking targets, firmly reappearing on the club’s radar this summer as the sides explore potential summer moves. The German winger has long prioritized a move to Barcelona if he leaves Borussia Dortmund, and that ambition appears to be a persistent one, not a new development born of recent headlines.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Adeyemi has never concealed his admiration for Barcelona. Across the years, whenever his name has been linked with the Catalan club, the forward has offered comments or gestures that only amplify his desire to one day sport the Blaugrana jersey. At Dortmund, Adeyemi is a crucial asset, but his personal aspiration has remained clear and steadfast.
The first explicit display of his affinity came back in December 2019, when Adeyemi was with FC Liefering, Red Bull Salzburg’s reserve team. Speaking in a past interview with Transfermarkt, the young striker candidly shared his dreams for the future. “It has always been my dream to play with the best player in the world, Lionel Messi, at Barcelona. I definitely want to play for a big club in one of the best leagues. If that happens, I couldn’t complain,” he said at the time.
Two years later, Adeyemi again added fuel to the Barcelona speculation during the 2021 Golden Boy awards ceremony. When asked about Barça’s interest, the German forward made his feelings clear: “Barça is a great club, it’s an honor that they want me. Of course I can see myself playing there if the opportunity arose.” On the same day, Adeyemi revealed that Barcelona’s interest had a longer history. He explained that “Kluivert contacted my agent at the time,” and he described the Catalan club as “one of the great benchmarks of European football and a very attractive destination for any player.”
The momentum around Adeyemi’s future resurfaced in May 2023, when another link to Barcelona appeared. Adeyemi notably liked a social media post positioning him as the ideal replacement for Ansu Fati, signaling that he could be a natural fit for the Catalan club’s attacking framework. Now, with the speculation intensifying once more, his name is again prominently connected with a move designed to strengthen Barcelona’s attacking options, suggesting he could be closer than ever to realizing his dream of joining the club he has long admired.
From the outset of Adeyemi’s rise in European football, he has consistently expressed excitement about the prospect of pulling on a Barcelona jersey. For Barcelona, the potential acquisition represents more than just a marquee signing; it could supply a long-term attacking asset at a time when the club is navigating questions about the future of Raphinha and the need for sustained offensive depth. Adeyemi’s reported interest in Barcelona matters not only as a personal dream for the player but also as a strategic consideration for Xavi’s squad planning and the broader project at Camp Nou.
As the transfer narrative unfolds, Adeyemi’s track record of publicly praising Barcelona—and the club’s long-standing interest in him—adds a compelling layer to the ongoing discussions. The prospect of Adeyemi donning the Blaugrana shirt remains an appealing option for Barcelona fans hoping to see a proactive, technically gifted winger who can contribute with pace, directness, and goal threat. With his sights clearly set on Barcelona and the club’s renewed emphasis on strengthening its attacking cohort, the coming months could prove pivotal in determining whether Adeyemi’s dream becomes reality.
