Newcastle sends new message to Arsenal over Guimaraes

By admin — In News — July 10, 2026

Newcastle United remain steadfast in their stance that Bruno Guimaraes is not for sale, even as Arsenal prepare a formal bid for the Brazil international in the wake of the World Cup. Guimaraes, who has long been on Arsenal’s radar, previously drew the Gunners’ interest when they submitted an approach through intermediaries a few weeks ago. That bid was promptly rejected, with Newcastle making their position clear: they have no intention of offloading one of their most influential players.
The Magpies have stood firm despite suggestions that Guimaraes would prefer to depart. After Brazil’s World Cup exit in the round of 16, the midfielder can be expected to focus on ironing out his club future. There have been reports indicating that Guimaraes has told Newcastle of his desire to leave and urged the club to accept Arsenal’s offer. Yet Newcastle have given no sign of wavering from their policy.
Metro Sport reiterates that Newcastle have conveyed the same message to Arsenal that they have maintained throughout the summer: Guimaraes is not for sale. The club feels no financial pressure to part with him, particularly after enabling Sandro Tonali’s move to Tottenham and Anthony Gordon’s transfer to Barcelona. Those departures have, in effect, provided Newcastle with additional funds and reduced the urgency to sanction another major sale.
With two years left on Guimaraes’s contract, Newcastle hold a strong position in negotiations. While this summer might present the best chance to command a substantial transfer fee if they ever decide to sell, the club remains determined to keep one of their key players. Arsenal are expected to keep monitoring the situation, but persuading Newcastle to alter their stance looks set to be an uphill task as the Magpies insist Guimaraes will remain at St James’ Park during the current transfer window.
