He signed with the Giants in the spring, reuniting with his former offensive coordinator Matt Nagy following two seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs. He had dealt with knee issues throughout the summer, according to Patricia Traina of Sports Illustrated, which left him out of the running in a deep Giants wide receiver room that also included fellow former Steelers draft pick Calvin Austin III and veteran additions Darnell Mooney, Braxton Berrios and Odell Beckham Jr. and third-round pick Malachi Fields. However, Smith-Schuster could prove to be an intriguing addition for a wide receiver-needy team, such as the Steelers, who are currently without veterans Michael Pittman Jr. (foot), Roman Wilson (hand) and Ben Skowronek (calf).Smith-Schuster spent the last two seasons with the Chiefs. In 14 games in 2024, he had 18 catches for 231 yards and two touchdowns. Last season, he caught 33 passes for 345 yards and one touchdown.Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster (9) on field during the NFL Super Bowl 57 football game, Sunday, Feb. 12, 2023, in Glendale, Ariz. His best season came in 2018, when he had a career-high 111 receptions for 1,426 yards.Following the 2021 season, Smith-Schuster signed a one-year deal worth a maximum of $10.75 million with the Chiefs. He proved to be worth the contract and then some after posting the second-most receiving yards of his career (933) and helping Kansas City win Super Bowl LVII.Smith-Schuster’s 2022 campaign earned him the big payday he was looking for. In 2023, he signed a three-year, $33 million contract with the New England Patriots. However, Smith-Schuster finished the year with just 29 catches for 260 yards and one touchdown through 11 games while dealing with injuries and the Patriots parted ways with him after just one season.Related HeadlinesSteelers Open as Road Favorites vs. Buccaneers in Week 6Announcers Revealed for Steelers-Buccaneers Game‘Our Featured Player Right Now’: Mike McCarthy Raves About Jaylen WarrenRead more at Steelers Now
